Writing Goals

I was always taught that there is always something new to learn and you can never know everything. This applies to all aspects of life including writing! We can always get better and faster and improve on things that we might not even realize we need improvement on. For this semester there are a couple of things that I, as a writer, would like to improve upon. First, one of my major goals is to expand my variety. I have always been a good writer when it came to silly poems or short stories and I really enjoy doing them both however I would like to expand my horizon. I like the take tens that we do in class because they make me think a lot and take risks in fields that i may have never tired before. I would like to expand my vocabulary as well because my vocabulary is not very advanced and sometimes I get stuck because I cannot find the right words to explain what I am thinking in my head. Another goal that I have for myself that some what goes along with the first goal is increasing my volume. Like i said before, I am good and enjoy writing short pieces like short stories or poems but i have more trouble as the pieces get longer and longer. I would like to maybe be able to write even 25 pages of one story! When i read books I always think about how the writer keeps going and going for hundreds of pages but it never gets old and I would like to maybe be able to do that one day. These goals are not my only goals but are definitely a main focus of mine over the next semester in Creative Writing class.

Blog #1: Welcome Entry

Greetings Everyone!

"The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say."~Anaïs Nin. This blog is going to be a pure free writing station where anything goes. I want creative juices flowing and I want random thoughts that will provoke intrigue and discussion. You can never write something that is wrong so express yourself in whatever form you feel comfortable. Make a poem or a short story, maybe you like strong single lines or inspiring quotes. Whatever is on your mind is what I want to see. My name is Dakota and I am a senior at Penfield High School. I like to write poems and inspiring sayings that will remind me of my life and the people around me. My friends have a lot of influence over my writing because we are all so close and they usually trigger my creative thoughts. I am not a fan of long pieces that require a lot of digging for a simple inner meaning but I do like humerus stories that really show a writers personality. I cannot wait to really dig into this blog and see all of the ideas stirring up in the minds of the world! Welcome to the daily writer and lets get started!
